Have Dreams Academy – Northwestern University Feinberg Medical School

The Have Dreams Academy at Feinberg School of Medicine is an intensive employment
training program for young adults with high functioning autism. The goal of the program is
competitive, inclusive employment, which is achieved through the use of our autism-specific
job readiness curriculum, two 10-12-week internship rotations throughout departments at
Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, as well as job development, job
placement, and follow-on services. Have Dreams Academy interns work in a range of
departments where they complete tasks such as:

  • Filing, scanning, and organizing documents
  • Data entry
  • Preparing mailings
  • Assembly and production
  • Labeling, order picking, and packaging
  • Inventory, stocking and checking expiration dates
  • Quality control

Eligibility:

  • Diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder or related
    disability
  • Desire for Competitive Employment
  • Appropriate behavior & social communication at work
    (candidate does not require immediate/continuous
    supervision)
  • Ability and desire to work within a business environment
  • Able to take direction from supervisors
  • Able to utilize public transportation when available and/or
    independently transport to work
  • Basic reading, writing, and math abilities

Program Components:

  • Training room with use of our autism-specific curriculum
  • Job coaching at internship sites
  • Job development and follow-on services to support participants in securing and maintaining employment following successful completion of the program
